Procedure
A BroadBand Light treatment session can take anywhere from twenty minutes to an hour depending on treatment areas and desired results. Only minimal discomfort has been reported among patients, but a topical anesthetic can be applied if preferred. Safety eye shield wear is required during the procedure for maximum eye protection. The physician will start by selecting the appropriate wavelengths on the laser device to apply to the targeted treatment area. Single or double pulses of light will penetrate the skin, causing the upper layers of tissue to heat, which in turn stimulates collagen production to reveal new, healthy skin. The BroadBand laser also utilizes an advanced thermoelectric cooling system to protect the skin from photothermal energy for a safe and comfortable treatment.
Recovery
BroadBand Light therapy requires little to no downtime. Patients may experience some skin redness and light bruising, but these symptoms only last for a few hours to one day. Daily activities can be resumed shortly after treatment. Most patients can apply make-up and return to work the same day following their BBL session. Depending on your skin condition and cosmetic goals, your doctor may recommend a series of treatments scheduled approximately four weeks apart to achieve optimal results. Generally, a course of two to six treatments is required for patients to notice overall improvement in skin color, tone and texture. Your physician may give you special skin care instructions to maximize healing time. Remember to apply sunscreen when you go outside and avoid sun exposure until you are properly healed.
