Now those attributes are being acknowledged by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities, Inc. (AAAASF) with accreditation status to Dr. Weniger and his facility.
AAAASF Accreditation Standards
To achieve accreditation status, a facility is required to meet and maintain a set of standards designed for providing the highest quality patient care. These standards include:
- Using professional anesthesiologists to administer and monitor anesthesia levels during procedures that involve deeper sedation
- Maintaining a safe environment for surgery, including using equipment and drugs that meet their own unique standards
- Requiring the surgeon to maintain hospital privileges for every procedure (meaning that a hospital has evaluated and determined that the surgeon is qualified to perform the procedure)
- Holding the facility to the same health and safety standards as any hospital
- Requiring regular peer reviews and data tracking of every procedure
Facilities and every single staff member are also required to meet specific standards of patient safety, which include:
- Adhering to all local, state, and federal regulations regarding licensing, building fire safety, building sanitation, and building codes for patient and staff protection
- Following federal laws and regulations for hazardous waste disposal, blood-borne pathogen safety, HIPAA privacy protection, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and any other such standards that affect the day-to-day operations of the facility
- Using advanced tools and equipment during the procedure and recovery period to monitor the patient’s safety and vitals
