Why You Should Consider a Brow Lift

There are a lot of ways that aging shows in your face, including around your brow region. Wrinkles begin forming between your eyebrows and then start showing up across your forehead. Your skin becomes looser as collagen production decreases, causing your skin to hang looser on your forehead. This aging in your brow can make your whole face look older, even if you haven’t developed signs of aging anywhere else. In more severe cases, your forehead can even start sliding downward and force the skin around your eyes to impair your vision. Your appearance can be improved of all these issues with a simple brow lift surgery.

The Different Types of Brow Lifts

A brow lift comes in two major types. The first is the classic brow lift. In this procedure, the surgeon makes one long incision behind your hairline from ear to ear. For patients who have receding or short hair, the incision can be made at the hairline instead. If a patient has hair that is thinning or is bald, the surgeon can make the incision around the middle of your scalp to make the scar less conspicuous. The goal for the incision to give the surgeon access to your forehead without making it obvious that you’ve had surgery.

After the incision is made, the skin is lifted away. Excess skin is removed and the muscles of the forehead can be repaired if they are damaged or need some tightening. The remaining skin tissue is then lifted back up to the incision site and secured with sutures or clips. The brow is smoothed out and tightened, giving the face a younger, fresher appearance. The eyebrows are also lifted to improve any vision issues.

The other major type of brow lift is the endoscopic lift. Unlike the classic brow lift, the endoscopic brow lift has three to five small incisions behind the hairline. The surgeon then inserts a special camera called an endoscope into the incision to see the muscles and soft tissue. The camera allows the surgeon to monitor his work on a television screen without needing to actually open up the patient’s forehead. Other small tools can be used to adjust the muscles or soft tissue through the other incisions as needed for repairs or other necessary changes to the brow. An eyebrow lift can also be done with this type of brow lift by moving the eyebrows further up on the forehead. The incisions can be closed with tape or sutures once the procedure is complete.

Brow Lift Surgery Recovery

Like most surgeries, the first couple days after a brow lift are the hardest. You will have some swelling around your forehead and possibly a little bruising. After about two days, you should be able to get around much easier and you can resume light activity after about a week. Strenuous activity that raises your blood pressure will have to be avoided for several weeks until your brow has healed. The incisions won’t be completely healed until after two or three weeks, but you will be able to wash your hair after the first couple days. Once the initial swelling goes down, you can go back to work and your normal routines.

Your Brow Lift Results

You will be able to see the results of your procedure almost immediately. The full effect won’t be complete until after you’ve healed, but you can get a sense of how your appearance has changed from the procedure. Your brow will look smoother and tighter, you will also look more energized, and you will have a younger looking face. Even though it won’t stop your face from aging, a successful brow lift can remove several years off of your appearance. When it is combined with other facial rejuvenation surgeries, such as an eyelift or a facelift, or with other nonsurgical procedures, like Botox or Dysport, you can improve your appearance even further!
