What I Wish I Knew Before Getting Breast Implants

Thinking about getting breast implants?

There are many different reasons why women decide to undergo breast augmentation surgery.

Every women’s situation is unique, and the benefits can be numerous!

Not only can it help improve the overall look of your body, you will gain a newfound sense of empowerment, knowing that you are taking charge of your body and are on your way to feeling and looking fantastic!

If you are seriously considering breast augmentation surgery, here are some things to consider.

Get all of the facts – good and bad

There is a good and bad side to everything, and when you’re getting this kind of surgery, yes it can be empowering! But be sure to educate yourself on the potential risks. Much as with a good marriage, a good breast augmentation requires that you know what you’re getting into upfront. An initial consultation will answer most of your preliminary questions.

Be prepared to change your plan

As you go into your first consultation, you may know exactly what you want – that is, until you speak with your surgeon. Be prepared to change up your plan based on the advice and expertise of your surgeon. Every woman’s beautiful body is unique, and factors such as amount of breast tissue, skin elasticity, breast sag, chest wall dimensions, and asymmetry are main considerations. Be sure to go into your consultation with an open mind.

Recovery

The first few days after surgery can be rough physically, so you will need plenty of rest! Remember, your body needs time to heal. So before surgery day, make sure that your home is clean and cozy, with fresh beds sheets for your return. Make sure your fridge is stocked with good food so you don’t have to go out. Have someone on stand-by in case you need something.

If you have small children, arrange for their care ahead of time for the first few days after surgery so you can focus on rest and healing. Be sure to follow your surgeon’s prescribed after-care to the letter, including medications.

Everyone’s pain threshold is different, and it may feel like you have two bowling balls strapped to your chest for the first few days. Yes, it takes some getting used to, but the rewards are great when all is said and done. Plan on anywhere between 3 to 10 days off to stay at home and focus on healing. Pamper yourself and get lots of rest.

Wear loose clothing so as not to restrict blood flow and aid in healing. If you have any questions at all post-op, do not be afraid to call your surgeon, even if you think it’s a small thing. They are there to help during the entire process, from beginning to end, and happy to answer any questions or concerns.

Take daily walks, even a day or two after surgery. You may not feel like it at first, but wallowing in bed right after surgery may actually increase your recovery time. Get up and get moving! Doing this will help fight the swelling, so your body can better circulate blood and oxygen.

Don’t freak out when you see your post-op boobs for the very first time. This will likely be during your first post-op visit a day or two after surgery.

Keep in mind, your chest will still be in healing mode and your muscles will still be making adjustments, so your new gorgeous set of breasts might look a little strange at this point.

There will be some bruising and, depending on if the implants were underneath the chest muscle, the implants may look tight and high at first, but things will slowly move into place.

Have confidence that this new addition to your body will adjust beautifully.

Your clothes will look beautiful on you

After a few weeks, your body will have had time to adjust to the implants and you will have a gorgeous new body! Having that little extra somthin’ somthin’ on your chest will make all of your garments have a beautiful silhouette. Your blouses and dresses will be more flattering on your body, giving you a new-found sense of pride in what you wear. Show it off!

A Sense of Confidence that You Never Anticipated

A few weeks after surgery, your ultimate shape, size and position will gradually develop as your tissues soften and the implants settle. This is commonly known as ‘drop and fluff.’ After this, your new, sexy silhouette will arm you with a sense of confidence that may surprise you. This personal satisfaction can lead to less stress and fewer bouts of depression, as well.

Your New Breasts Will Change Your Life

After the healing is over, you will find that you have magnificent breasts and your life will benefit in so many ways. In addition to the physical change in your body, studies have shown that the psychological benefits are very real.

Along with an elevated sense of self-esteem, many have reported having a better sex life (in terms of both frequency and satisfaction).

Having breast augmentation allows women to take charge of their bodies, their desires and their health in a wonderful way, and that kind of autonomy can be extremely empowering.

Getting breast implants is not just a way of making yourself look better, it can make you feel better in so many ways.

Despite what others may say about getting breast implants, it’s not just about the boob job. It’s the feeling you get when you always look better in your clothes, no matter what you wear.

It’s about the confidence you feel without any clothes at all. Family, friends and co-workers will notice the difference in your overall attitude when you know you’re looking your best.

When you look in the mirror, you will see the evidence. You will walk out the door with a slight spring in your step.

And people will notice that.
