How common is it for patients who have had breast augmentation to later want a change in size, either larger or smaller, or have the implants removed altogether?

Question:

How common is it for patients who have had breast augmentation to later want a change in size, either larger or smaller, or have the implants removed altogether?

Answer:

Size changes are one of the most common reasons for re-operation after breast augmentation. In fact, studies have shown that 90% of American women wish they went larger. I personally have not seen that, probably because we use sizers to help make sure that the patient and I are on the same page as far as what they want and what I think they want. It helps us to avoid surprises. I would guess that approximately 25% of our patients wish they went bigger. I have only ever had one patient want to have the implants removed, and 2 patients who wished they went smaller.
