Restylane™ is a cosmetic filler used to fill in fine to moderate lines around the areas of the mouth, eyes and nose. The side effects of Restylane™ are similar to those of other injectables, minimal redness with the possibility of minor inflammation.
Restylane™ is often a less expensive form of injectable, producing results that can last up to two times as long.
In addition to filling in small to moderate facial lines, Restylane™ can also be used for lip enhancement to define or add volume to the lips. This injectable is a type of hyaluronic acid not derived from animal tissue so those who have animal-related allergies won’t suffer allergic reactions to the treatment.
Restylane™ treatments produce natural-looking, long-lasting results and require approximately 15 to 20 minutes for a treatment. The side effects following a Restylane™ treatment are minimal to nonexistent, meaning appointments can be made during the middle of the day without fear of having to interrupt the schedule. A cosmetic dermatologist or plastic surgeon administers the treatment as an in-office procedure. Each Restylane™ treatment that follows will last longer than the one before, resulting in a youthful appearance that can last for years.
Thousands of applications in a clinical setting have shown that Restylane™ has a very low rate of side effects. Common side effects experienced by patients tend to disappear within a few hours to a few days following the injectable treatment. These side effects include tenderness, swelling, redness or minor discomfort at the treatment site. Lip injections have a greater tendency to produce the most swelling, which also goes away within a few hours to a few days. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring chemical in the body, resulting in less allergic reaction to the injectable.
Restylane™ has been used in Europe since the early 1990s. The US Food and Drug Administration approved the injectable for use in the US in 2003.
