BREAST LIFT FAQs

What are the risks and complications involved with having a breast lift?

As with any surgery, there are risks involved. Some possible risks associated with a breast lift are scars, nipple numbness, and delayed wound healing. However, having a qualified plastic surgeon perform your surgery minimizes the chances of complications. Dr. Weniger will fully present any risk possibilities to you during your consultation.

Will I lose sensation in my nipples?
As with breast reduction, feeling can be altered, but usually returns to the way it was before the surgery. It is possible, although rare, to have loss of nipple sensation.

What happens if I get pregnant after having a breast lift?
If you are considering having more children in the near future, Dr. Weniger recommends that you wait until afterwards to have a breast lift. Pregnancy will likely offset the effects of surgery by stretching out the skin again causing sagging.

Will a breast lift impact breast-feeding?
Breast lifts can affect the ability to breast feed, although this varies from patient to patient, and with different techniques. Because Dr. Weniger tailors the type of breast lift performed to each patient's breast shape and their goals, he can discuss your specific situation with you in more detail.

Will the position of the nipple and areola change? If so, where will it be?
Dr. Weniger will move the nipple and areola higher during the procedure, to a natural, perkier position, approximately even with the crease beneath the breast.

How long will the results last?
Weight fluctuations, age, future pregnancies and gravity will cause breasts to begin to sag again over time. (No operation can turn off gravity or time) Women who have chosen to have implants as well as a breast lift may have longer lasting results.

Will I need a mammogram before the procedure?
Depending on your age, Dr. Weniger can suggest a mammogram prior to the operation.

How long will the scars last?
Scars are always permanent, although they'll be covered by your bra or swimsuit. As with most scars, they will fade and become much less noticeable over time.
