Wax treatments offer a quick, easy method of hair removal. Wax hair removal involves the use of a resin-based wax product which is applied to the treatment area where it removes the entire hair follicle from the root. Some of the most common areas that are treated include the eyebrows and the upper lip. Other treatment areas may include the bikini area and the underarms. Waxing is not just for women as men also undergo treatment, commonly on the back or chest.
During treatment, a warm wax mixture is spread over the hair in the direction of growth. Either soft or hard wax may be used. If soft wax is used, a strip of paper or cloth is placed over the soft wax. Once the wax has cooled off sufficiently and has grasped enough hairs, the strip is then quickly pulled off in the opposite direction of hair growth, taking the entire hair follicle with it. Hard wax does not require strips of paper or cloth because the wax cools in a solid form that can be pulled off by itself.
One of the advantages of wax treatments over other methods like tweezing is that the wax can be spread over a fairly large area and a large amount of hair can be removed all at once. The duration of results will vary, however patients can remain hair-free for up to six weeks after treatment.
