Deep Erbium Laser Resurfacing

Plastic Surgery in 3DThe latest innovation in laser resurfacing, deep erbium laser resurfacing is a relatively pain-free resurfacing treatment that requires very minimal recovery time. In fact, patients frequently need only several days to completely rebound from this treatment. Providing possibly the highest measure of efficacy among skin resurfacing treatments, this process can reduce or even eliminate irregularities in skin coloration, sun damage, acne scars, age spots and even fine wrinkles.

The most commonly treated areas are the face, neck and hands, however, deep erbium laser resurfacing can even be used to treat sun damage on the forearms and chest when deemed appropriate or necessary by the surgeon.

Deep erbium laser resurfacing allows for a very precise, layer-by-layer removal of damaged, superficial skin cells. People who are good candidates for this type of skin rejuvenation procedure are those possessing fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars that have no responded to other methods of treatment and facial skin that did not improve in terms of tone and texture in spite of other cosmetic procedures that have been performed such as the facelift or the mini-facelift.

Patients are guided through a pre-operative skin conditioning process which ensures optimal health and hydration of the skin before the procedure is performed. The most common complication for deep erbium laser resurfacing is a condition known as PIH or post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation. This can be avoided by proper skin-conditioning prior to the performance of the actual procedure. Post-surgical recommendations will be made as well to ensure the use of the most beneficial cosmeceuticals for facilitating optimal healing and continued skin improvements.

Partial deep erbium laser resurfacing treatments are used to correct skin irregularities in specific areas of the face and the treatments will typically last as long as 30 to 45 minutes. A full-face treatment will generally last about an hour. The average recovery time for both full-facial and partial-face treatments is about 10 to 21 days.
